Empowering Women Entrepreneurs: Celebrating American Business Women's Day

American Business Women's Day celebrates women's significant contributions to the business world and recognizes the resilience, innovation, and leadership displayed by women entrepreneurs across various industries. This day, established by H.R. 5050 on September 22, 1988, marks a pivotal moment when women were finally granted the right to secure business loans without a male co-signer. It's a stark reminder of how far we've come and persisting challenges. I reflect on my remarkable journey as a woman entrepreneur and the ongoing quest for equality in the business world.

My Story: A Journey of Purpose

My path to entrepreneurship wasn't always clear. A pivotal conversation with my mother and "Tia" during college led me to discover my true calling in Human Resources. This field resonated deeply with my values of creating inclusive and equitable workplaces.

As a child of immigrants, my Afro-Latina experience is deeply rooted in mission-driven work. My parents' perseverance in the face of adversity – overcoming language barriers, racism, and discrimination – inspires me. Today, through AllProfit HR, I honor their legacy by providing comprehensive Human Resources services that help companies build a sustainable and stellar culture of belonging for all. We are dedicated to transforming businesses while engaging employees to achieve greater internal and external impact.

The Ongoing Struggle for Equality

The celebration of American Business Women's Day reminds us of the progress made in breaking barriers and shattering glass ceilings in the business world. It is a testament to the strength and determination of women who have overcome challenges and paved the way for future generations of entrepreneurs.

Despite significant progress, women entrepreneurs still face unique challenges. Recent data shows that women own 38.6% of businesses in the United States, contributing $2.1 trillion in sales. However, we continue to face barriers in accessing capital and resources. For instance, women entrepreneurs are less likely to receive business loans and often receive smaller sums at higher interest rates than our male counterparts when we secure funding.

The struggle is even more pronounced for women of color. Recent discrimination lawsuits against organizations like Hello Alice and the Fearless Fund, which aim to support underrepresented entrepreneurs, highlight the ongoing challenges and resistance faced by initiatives designed to level the playing field for women and minoritized business owners.

This disparity underscores the importance of supporting women-owned businesses like AllProfit HR. By working with and supporting women entrepreneurs, you contribute to a more equitable business landscape,  foster innovation that benefits all, and significantly boost the American economy
