Wear Blue for Men’s Health

June is Men’s Health Month—a powerful reminder that workplace wellness must include and intentionally center the unique health needs of men, especially those often overlooked in healthcare access and outcomes. According to the American Institute for Boys and Men Research, men in the United States live five years less than women on average, with Black men facing the steepest disparity, only 69 years of life expectancy. One of the most urgent health concerns for men is prostate cancer, especially after the recent news that former President Joe Biden was diagnosed with an aggressive, advanced form of it.
Prostate cancer is just one of many non-communicable diseases (NCDs)—chronic conditions not passed from person to person. These include heart disease, diabetes, and certain cancers, all of which disproportionately affect men. Many non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are preventable through regular screenings, healthy habits, and early intervention. And yet, men are statistically less likely to visit the doctor, seek mental health care, or receive preventive screenings. The result? A public health crisis hidden in plain sight.
Men are also four times more likely than women to die by suicide. Depression—often undiagnosed or untreated due to stigma and cultural norms about masculinity—is a key driver. Younger men are particularly at risk. It’s time for workplace leaders to take bold action.
At AllProfit HR, we believe organizations are powerful vehicles for health equity. We encourage leaders to:

Host Wear Blue Day before Father’s Day to raise awareness about men’s health.
Go beyond attire and partner with your healthcare brokers to host an educational lunch, wellness check-ins, or friendly team challenges focused on movement and mindfulness.
Review your total rewards benefits to ensure they support preventive care and mental health services.
Invite nutritionists or sexual health educators for wellness talks throughout the year.
Encourage healthy snack breaks by limiting coffee and offering herbal teas, low-carb (gluten-free or vegan) donuts, fruit skewers, or protein-based alternatives on employee appreciation days.
Train managers to promote health breaks—not just screen time, but moments for reflection, stretching, or even guided breathing.
June 21 is International Day of Yoga - bring a yogi in to instruct, introduce, or guide your workforce in alternative movement methods of well-being.
Men’s health is not a side issue—it’s a workforce, family, and community issue. By fostering equitable and accessible health practices at work, we cultivate cultures where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.
This June, as we honor the amazing dads, uncles, grandfathers, and father figures for Father’s Day, let’s gift them something invaluable: a workplace that prioritizes their health and well-being. Let’s redefine what workplace wellness looks like.
