The other day, I was in a session with a client who came in convinced their biggest struggle was time management. They felt stuck, overwhelmed, and kept putting off important tasks. As we unpacked what was really happening, we noticed a pattern: the tasks they were avoiding weren’t just boring, they were the ones that felt hard. And underneath that avoidance was a deeper truth. It wasn’t about poor time management at all; it was about perfectionism fueled by imposter syndrome. My client wasn’t avoiding the work because they didn’t care, it was because they cared so much that the fear of not doing it perfectly kept them from starting. That realization was powerful. Together, we shifted the conversation from productivity tips to exploring their values and life purpose, which gave them a renewed sense of clarity and courage to move forward. Every October, we celebrate National Coach Day. Coaching is not limited to athletes, professionals like you and me benefit from certified coaches. I share this story to highlight the transformative power of coaching and reflect on a powerful truth from Alice Walker: “The most common way people give up their power is by thinking they don’t have any”.
The modern workplace is undergoing a remarkable transformation, shaped by a complex mix of economic pressures, technological shifts, and environmental anxiety. These factors often extend well beyond our job descriptions, leading to elevated stress, mental health concerns, and burnout. Many professionals, especially women and those from underrepresented groups, also navigate workplace bullying, harassment, and systemic biases that can make the path to success feel isolating and fraught with challenges. In this environment, it's easy to feel like you've given up your power, but coaching is a vital resource to help you reclaim it.
Workplace, also known as business or professional, coaching is an authentic benefit that empowers you to turn challenges into stepping stones. It is a collaborative process that facilitates self-discovery and transformation, helping you unlock your full personal and professional potential. As we honor National Coach Day, here are seven points of advice to help you navigate your professional journey and thrive.

7 Ways to Navigate the Workplace and Reclaim Your Power
1. Define Your Foundation for Success: Start by getting clear on what you want to achieve. The first phase of our Workplace Empowerment Framework is "Define," where we establish the foundation by assessing your current state and naming your aspirations. A coach partners with you to discover and clarify your goals, helping you map a professional path that aligns with your authentic self and values.
2. Protect Your Well-Being: Workplace stress is a primary health concern, contributing to burnout and absenteeism. Coaching provides personalized strategies to manage high job demands, reduce stress, and set healthy boundaries to protect your mental and physical health. Prioritizing self-care is not selfish; it's essential for holistic well-being and sustainable success.
3. Build on Your Strengths: Meaningful feedback and development should focus on building your strengths, not just highlighting weaknesses. A strengths-based approach enhances performance and engagement. A coach helps you identify, appreciate, and leverage your unique talents, turning them into powerful tools for growth and advancement.

4. Evolve Your Skills and Mindset: The second phase of our framework is "Evolve," where we focus on nurturing growth and turning potential into performance. Coaching is crucial for skill enhancement, helping you develop leadership capabilities, emotional intelligence, and communication skills. This prepares you to overcome obstacles and confidently pursue new opportunities.
5. Cultivate Authentic Relationships: Positive leadership and strong social support are vital for both productivity and well-being. Through coaching, you can learn to foster environments of support and motivation, building trust and enhancing team collaboration. This creates a network that champions your growth.
6. Seek Accountability and Support: A coach serves as a strategic partner and a sounding board, holding you accountable for taking action toward your goals. This partnership ensures you stay on track, offering encouragement and honest feedback as you navigate your career. You don't have to go it alone; going together helps you go far.
Inspire
7. Inspire Transformation in Your Career: The final phase of our framework, "Inspire," is about activating transformation and fostering a lasting impact. Coaching empowers you to rewrite your narrative, challenge limiting statistics, and carve out a unique path to success. It helps you find a deeper sense of purpose and fulfillment in your work, inspiring not only your own growth but also that of a new generation of leaders.
